I have to admit to the fans out there of Bay Area music, theres a lot of great music out here, but continuously the Ambassador of our Bay Area Rap scene, Mr Flamboyant himself, still sets the tone and reminds us that if you "want the torch, you need to take it from me", and no doubt does that fit well considering the time he took to make this record, the quality of the production, and lyrical content, is still super sharp not just by Bay Area standards, but to me there is no other rapper in the world like him. Check out his 2Chainz & Juicy J single "They Point", which has a video shot by Ben Griffin of Prime Zero. Other bangers I enjoy are "On The Case" "Street Nigga" "Rock Stars" "Function" "Zombie", over all a 5 stars as usual!!
Drew Deezy brings a lyrical attack, in a pure Young Jeezy in this raw pack thriller album. This album boasts guest appearences by E40, Philthy Rich, Thai, Billy Blue, along with many others. Make sure to check 454 films director gino rock produced video "raw Packs", which shows great visuals of San Jose's Drew Deezy walking throughout his neighborhood. Make sure to read his debut cover story in this issue, which sheds a little light into whats next for Drew Deezy. Also make sure to check out his newest release "The Poly Tape", which features many Polynesion artists from all over. In my opinion, I would say that Drew Deezy is one of the best street rappers not just in San Jose, but in the industry, his lyrics are felt when he speaks.
Richmond California Iamsu! created a Bay Classic with this mix between 808&Heartbreaks and Thriller of a Masterpiece called KILT .. From the technique to the Iamsu! Produced beats to the features and track-listing you can certainly tell that this is his most creative project yet. With songs like "Shows, Clothes and Afros" "Cancelled Plans" "As Far As It Goes" ft upcoming HOLLYWOOD KEEFY, and "Over" and "Made It" his diversity and creativity is inevitably capturing , making you an instant fan. Tracks like "Poppin Bands" ft Berner , "Mainey" , "Get It In" , and "Different" ft the HBK GANG, are surely to get any house party, club, event poppin. With "Raven Simone" , "Wake up/2 mili" and "Rollin Up" his lyrical presence and catchy flow is colder than those cubes in your dirty sprite.
DB Tha General has been hard at work, recently just doing a show with Too Short, DJ Amen, and Philthy Rich, in Petaluma. He has been hard at work pushing House party, which brings a different vibe to his more recent projects like King of Oakland. His recent video "Where My Dogs At" which features his new rap partner AV, as well as Getcha Gotcha partners Tommy T, & Nittee. Definately go see that on youtube!! Also check out his other video "I'm goin in", which also includes a short documentry outside his house where he was raised. This song is a definately a trunk slapper, along with the rest of the project. As DJ Amen says, DB Tha General has more energy than any other rapper in the Bay Area, we agree and wait for whats next!!!
40 Glocc, the Infamous G-Unit member recently just dropped this new mixtape, "Seedz of Makaveli" also is the lead single of the project, which features Tupac's inner circle Tha Outlawz. Another hot record on this project is the Mob Deep laced track "Play the Record", which has that grimey NY feel to it. Whenever I want to hear some real hot street music, 40 Glocc dont let us down, and the girl on the hook Racq Dolo, she brings such a nice flavor to his song. I also enjoy the skits where we hear Tupac Talking throughout the project. Overall because theres a lot of versatility in this album, I am excited to hear more of 40 Gloccs actual records, which is great material, another thumbs up to Mr 50 Cent for noticing pure talent!!
With all the press of V Nasty, and being able to shoot with her and take the road I got to see the real side of V Nasty, and I know her as a Mom. So to the magazine we support her music career. We also feel this was a fabulous first release for the White Girl Mob member. The album boasts a popular video "Lets Get Faded", which was shot in Atlanta. V Nasty also has two bay Area guest features from Mistah Fab. and Berner. Overall I give this a 4 only because I feel if they took more time to make the project it would have done a lot better. But this album slaps in the car, and definately needs more love on promotion, give it a try, it grows on you quick, and if you have slap in your car, than the Zaytoven produced album is a great daily listen!!!
Billy Blue does it again, maintaing versatilaty, and bringing contant good music, track for track!! Make sure to check out "Trapping", with labelmate Brisco. Also check out a new single by newly signed singer Future, the track is called"Lets Get It On". Another big song is the Plies laced collaboration "Bitch You Gone Make", which has a slower tempo 808 that bangs real hard!! Another track that really brought a change in his sound is his single "WTF", which is a pop influenced song, but is a hot club song, so if your a DJ reading this, make sure you gran this record!! Al Husky is a diamond in the dirt for Bay Area hip hop, not normal do I find a artist with such a great cast of characters on there album. Al Husky came with top notch production, and an all star All Bay Music cast from DB Tha General, The Jacka, Bo Strangles, K Loc, Lil Rue, Roach Gigz, Dru Down, Spice 1, AP9, Tito B, Lil Bruce, Mr Kee, The Dragons, Beeda Weeda, Daz Dillinger, JT Tha Bigga Figga, Killa Tay, and many more.
