How did you get the name Dub Da Mac?
I got the name Dub Da Mac when I was sixteen from one of the older homies that put me on game when I was younger. He never seen a white boy like me with as much game as the rest the homies and the name stuck with me since. Before that, everyone knew me as Dub or K-Dub.
How long have you been into music?
I have been into music my whole life, in almost every way I could possibly be into it. I started taking piano lessons at three, stayed in band and chorus throughout middle school and high school, started rapping at thirteen, had started making beats when I was fifteen on Fruity Loops 4.0 off a bootleg demo. As I got older and better, so did my equipment and yeah, you can just say music is my life.
What influenced you to pursue making music and pursuing a record label with a full roster of artists?
It's all I ever wanted to do. I never wanted to get big by myself. I'm about bringing my city with me if not the whole state. For the past 6 years I've been working my hardest scouting talent in all areas of the nation looking for hot independent artists that deserved getting some recognition but had no way of getting their music heard or no way of even getting on any production. I changed that for a lot of artists who do and don't deserve the opportunities I have to offer but my doors are always open for anybody who wants to make this a serious career.
So you are the owner of Eighth Dimension Entertainment, what made you name your record label that?
Yeah, I own 8D Ent., the idea behind my label is this: when you hear a rapper rap you want to be able to close your eyes and visualize the picture the artist is trying to paint you. To me, Eighth Dimension Ent. is the sight of sound. I named my label after some of Tupac's earlier lyrics. Since Pac was a visionary and a hell of a picture painter, he sparked an idea in my mind and a world of imagination with just those lyrics. I was 17 when I started labeling all my productions with Eighth Dimension Ent. and it's stayed with me since.
Which artists are you currently working with?
Currently, I'm working on projects with X-Raided for my upcoming album," X-Raided Present's Son of Da Zodiac". I am also working with several artist's on my label on multiple projects. Check out Prod3gy, Drasticc, Young Cazz, KC, Triboro, P-Dubb, Shae B., and the rest of the artists on Twitter Facebook or www.8dent.com. I've also done tracks with Brotha Lynch Hung, C-Dubb, E-40, Glasses Malone & a few other surprise artists for my upcoming LP Audioography dropping this Christmas 2012.
Any artists whom you have had the pleasure of hearing over your production?
I've gotten to hear a multitude of artists on my instrumentals over the years from Danity Kane to Shady Nate recently I've had Glasses Malone, Spice 1, Brotha Lynch Hung, Wiz Khalifa, Lil Rue and E-40. I've done several tracks for several artists on a boat load of albums I could list my production credits for days but I'd have to take out another page in the mag here.
Any other artists or producers you plan to collaborate with on your upcoming releases?
Well, I do have a couple of special guest artists coming in on my next album that I have not really announced to everyone yet. I did a smackin ass song with Drake for my album Audioography and I also got to hook up and collaborate with Warren G's partners… the Duv Shack out in Long Beach. There are a few other artists, but I'm going to keep them under wraps til the videos and albums drop.
What do you plan on releasing in the next year?
This year has been a full on production year for us with all summer, fall and winter releases. We just started the summer off by releasing Eighth Dimension Ent. presents "Squad Music Vol.2", which is a compilation of some of the artists and current projects they have got going on. My next planned release is going to be on July 30th. I'm releasing, "X-Raided Presents Son of Da Zodiac". For a list of the releases from any 8D artist, check our website out or find Eighth Dimension Ent. on Facebook.
Any advice you can give artists who are seeking to get out there?
Stay true to your word as you follow these dreams. Sometimes having talent means being able to have money to spend on your talent. This industry is like a gamble. You just have to be willing to risk it all and gamble on yourself. And if you believe in yourself and your talent you will go far and succeed. It takes a team of people to make a record label successful. It takes a team of people to make anything successful.
Can you name three people whom you would like to work with in the near future?
I really want to work with Tech N9ne, Joe Budden and I would really like to work with a West Coast legend such as Warren G.
Where can people find you?
Google me, find me on iTunes just search for Dub Da Mac, check out www.8dent.com, find me on Twitter @DubDaMac and @8thDimensionEnt. Add me on FB, just look up Dub Da Mac.
