Aubrey did it again. Rap superstar Drake breaks the Internet with a Beyonce-esk promotional move by dropping a full fledge mixtape, hitting iTunes Friday, the 13th. With soaring reviews, the project is on track sale 500,000 units just over the weekend.
Drake started his buzz with a short film called ‘Jungle’. The Toronto native gathers a camera crew to display gritty images of him and his hometown buddies in the snowy Toronto terrain. And jus 3 days later he tweets the link to his mixtape, breaking the Internet in spectacular fashion. The mixtape features dark hard hitting tunes such as Madonna, Jungle, and Company. As well as previously dropped songs like 6 God and Used To.
But with all the glory, controversy looms. With all the drama surrounding Lil Wayne and his beef with birdman and cash money records, rumors surfaced that Drake dropped this mixtape, disguised as an album so that he would complete his 4-album contract with the Cashmoney. In doing so, he could release his highly anticipated album ‘Views From the 6’ under Young Money, the label established by his predecessor, Lil Wayne.
Drake also took shots at Young Money associate, Tyga, in the song ‘6PM in New York’. In mid 2014, Vibe magazine interviewed Tyga, at which time the young money took the opportunity to state his negative feelings about Drake. Drake responded with a segment of a verse of his mixtape. A portion read, “You need to act your age and not your girls age”
Amid the harsh atmosphere hip hop is in as of now, Drake had no hesitation with letting the public know what he thought of the commotion. We here you loud and clear.
